Young and single Jack Chambers, 28, has escaped Britain’s woeful winter climate and political brawls – by upping and Bromptoning off to sunny Sardinia in the beautiful med.
Jack had already pedalled his British-made bay Brompton bike round most of London and the south coast plus every New Forest trail near his home in Southbourne, Bournemouth – and was itching for a much-needed suntan top-up.
He took a cheap flight from Gatwick to Sardinia and jetted off for a week in paradise with his tiny bike all tucked up in the plane hold. Jack, travelling very light, even cycled out of Cagliari airport on his mountain tour of the island.
He loved every minute as cheering locals applauded his efforts in scaling the steep ascents to the summits and hammering downhill to the seaside where he took the cheapest available room for a rest.
Up at dawn for a special island breakfast to fuel up for a day’s tough slogging he completed all mountain-tops in a 5-day whirl and loved it.
He encountered just one bad night when he reached the coast too late for accommodation and had to spend a night sleeping on the beach, waking next day to a thousand sandfly bites all over. He blessed locals, especially the young ladies, for applying soothing ointments to stop his all-over itching!
And after a final night with locals watching the sun go down it was a snooze in Cagliari’s airport for his dawn flight back to blighty.
