Brits get most holidays in Europe

British citizens get the most holidays in Europe – 28 days paid leave each year – but actually take less holidays.

Statistics show that French and Germans are more likely to take more trips, though they have less holiday entitlement.

And the British like a bargain. One in five UK citizens surveyed by the Association of British Travel Agents said they planned to make their next holiday an all-inclusive package deal, which may be why our average holiday spend per person works out as less than half that of many of our foreign friends.
Said Ian Crawford of Holiday Hypermarket :“All-inclusive holidays are something that people in the UK are looking for all year round, making sure they get the most for their money.”

Breakdown:

Country Public Holidays Overall holidays Holiday spending Trips abroad taken per year (approx.)
Germany 9 20 74 Billion GBP 75 Million
UK 8 28 47 Billion GBP 66 Million
France 11 25 40 Billion GBP 34 Million

German holidaymakers spend the most on tourism and often take three or more trips annually, while British tourists tend to treat holidays as more of an event, heading abroad once or twice each year,” Crawford added.
But with package holidays getting more and more affordable, is it possible we could pip them to the post in 2017?
“The UK are hot on Germany’s heels when it comes to taking time off,” Crawford said, “now that a week’s all-inclusive holiday can cost you less than £200, British travellers are more and more frequently starting to go abroad multiple times in a year.”
While the percentage of the population travelling is about equal for the UK and Germany – in each instance, around 77% of people took a holiday last year – Germans not only travel more often, but also for longer periods of time.
