Palm Springs is the perfect location for a golf getaway it is also brilliant for a wintersun holiday. And if you take the family there are plenty of hotel and apartment accommodation options and plenty to do in what has also been described as the Golden Oldie capital of the States, as most residents are retirees. Don’t be put off with Palm’s “Golden Oldies” tag, though middle-aged couples love it here because they feel young – and it certainly there’s a pleasing mid-1960’s look and feel about the city – firstly buildings are nearly all low-rise and the architecture mainly of the bungalow type and there are group visits to the homes of the Hollywood stars, as the big names liked to have a home at Palm to escape LA’s non-stop action.
Palm has a fabulous downtown area and you can walk and shop designer outlets and the whole area in complete safety.
The flight from Europe is long (11 to 12 hours to LA then two-hour drive) but well worth the effort – once there the holiday (and golf) and all services are world-class, the weather is as warm as the welcome and visitors have their choice of a variety of accommodations with something to suit the pockets of all but the most budget conscientious visitor or golfer. Palm Springs is on the radar of 3 million north American golfers every year and it should be on yours.
And even if you don’t do golf there is plenty to do, from desert tours and treks, to 4-wheel drive safaris, great shopping including a massive outlet mall, and for film fans there are plenty of stars homes to visit. And being a mountain area you can even ski 40 minutes away at Big Bear.
Oh yes, and it is dry and sunny all the time.
